Are you strength training and eating enough protein for weight loss?

Benefits of strength training and protein

Strength training can reduce muscle loss and metabolic slowdown when losing weight.

Protein reduces your hunger hormone and increases the hormone that makes you feel fuller longer. A decrease in appetite makes you consume fewer calories.

“Consuming 25-30% of your total daily calories from protein has been shown to boost metabolism by up to 80-100 calories per day, compared with lower protein diets.”

Protein helps to repair and rebuild your muscles after a workout. Muscles burn more calories than fat. The more muscles you have, the bigger resting expenditure, which means your body burns more calories while at rest

What happens when I don’t incorporate strength training and lean protein into my weight loss routine?

If you don’t include resistance training into your exercise routine and not eating enough protein, can lead to an increase in muscle loss and slowing down of your metabolism especially when dieting.

Studies show as we age each decade, we lose some muscle mass which puts us at a higher risk of falls and bone fractures. Consuming a healthy diet and strength training can help offset that loss of muscle.

Not eating enough protein can increase the craving for unhealthy foods and snacks between meals

Summary

By including strength training into your exercise routine, eating a healthy diet that also includes lean protein, can help you achieve and maintain your weight loss goal.

Another benefit of exercise and strength training, as we age, exercise will help us maintain our balance, strengthen our bones, and muscles thereby improving our flexibility.
