Each generation tends to repeat the same mistakes made by previous ones. We often need to experience things ourselves and make decisions based on what we know. The challenge arises because we may lack the experience or information for new issues. Since no one is perfect, 100% good decisions are not always possible. We learn from our mistakes and grow as individuals.

Why Can't We All Be Wise?
Each generation tends to repeat the same mistakes made by previous ones. We often need to experience things ourselves and make decisions based on what we know. The challenge arises because we may lack the experience or information for new issues. Since no one is perfect, 100% good decisions are not always possible. We learn from our mistakes and grow as individuals.
However, becoming wiser can be easier if we seek input from experienced individuals. We do not need to live through something to understand how problems may arise. We also do not have to gather information if someone else has already solved the problem. Wisdom involves using available resources to save time, money, and pain.
Six Tips for Gaining Wisdom
Continuous Learning: Learn everything about various topics.
Take Risks Early: Pursue your dreams; strive for progress, not perfection.
Live in the Moment: Focus on your passion and purpose.
Pick Your Battles: Concentrate on your goals and priorities.
Value Your Relationships: Spend quality time with family and friends.
Change Your Relationship with Money: Spend less, save more, and avoid making others rich.
1 Continue to Learn About Different Topics

Learning is not just about gaining knowledge; it's about staying ahead of future changes. You should prepare for various topics to adapt to what lies ahead. Since change is constant, expect to learn new skills continually. Gaining knowledge from family and friends is vital, as many have faced similar issues and can offer valuable advice.
2 Take Risks and Learn from Your Mistakes
Many hesitate to act due to a fear of making mistakes. Do not let the saying "practice makes perfect" hold you back. Perfectionism is flawed; think of growth as "practice makes progress." Success often requires failure, and making mistakes is a natural part of life. Regret can lead to feelings of sadness, stress, and anxiety. Whether launching a business or meeting a potential romantic partner, do not let fear stop you.
J.K. Rowling wisely stated, “It is impossible to live without failing at something unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all; in which case, you have failed by default.” Many people have great ideas but are afraid to act because of the potential for failure. Instead of fearing failure, embrace the chance of regret.
3 Know Your Passion and Purpose
Living a life filled with passion and purpose means having a clear direction. It is essential to know what you value, the principles that guide you, and your goals in contributing to your community. A purpose-driven life brings many benefits, including making a difference in the world. Time is precious; prioritize activities that align with your values.
Most people have heard the saying ‘Mind, Body, and Soul’ as an expression of happiness and peace. I would argue that ‘Spirit, Mind, and Body’ is a better order to guide your life.
Spirit involves trusting in a higher power and relying on spiritual guidance. You cannot solve every problem alone, but with divine support, achievement is possible. Wisdom includes welcoming this help.
Mind represents self-control. Living in the moment encourages mindfulness of the present. A strong mind helps clarify goals and prioritize what matters most. It keeps you focused on the people and experiences right in front of you.
We often multitask so much that we miss the richness of each moment. Have you ever attended an event and later forgotten what you experienced? Engage your senses and your mind to fully appreciate the present. This focus leads to better mental health, but remember to limit distractions like alcohol and smoking.
Body signifies the importance of your physical health. Taking care of your body is vital. Exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, meditate to reduce stress, and ensure you get enough sleep.

4 Pick Your Battles Carefully
When you gain wisdom, you begin to realize that not everything deserves your time or energy. Life includes ups and downs, and you cannot control every event or person. Accept that worrying brings unnecessary stress, which is detrimental to your health. I live by the saying, “No one will die today due to my bad decision.” This applies to most people, excluding first responders.
Learn to forgive and let go. Holding onto grudges weighs you down and distracts you from moving forward. Remember that life is too short to carry past burdens.
5 Focus on Family and Friends
Build meaningful relationships. You will not want to be alone in retirement. These connections provide joy and support throughout life.Studies suggest that being in a loving relationship can add years to your lifespan.
Do not lose touch with loved ones because you took them for granted. Surround yourself with those who share your values. Your decisions will be guided by your principles, enhancing your authenticity in life.
Learning from mistakes is important but can be time-consuming. An effective shortcut is learning from others’ experiences. Many around you have useful insights; they’ve likely encountered similar struggles.
6 Change Your Relationship with Money
In 2019, around 12 million households in the U.S. were deemed “401K millionaires.” They built wealth not by sheer hard work but by using smart financial strategies. Only 20% inherit wealth; the rest are self-made. Your goal should be to make money work for you by understanding compound interest.
Savings is essential. Generational financial pitfalls still repeat today. Practice living below your means. Don't fall into the trap of “keeping up with the Joneses.” Cut unnecessary expenses, and avoid debt accumulation.
Financial freedom brings peace of mind and hope for the future. It directly affects your well-being and sleep quality.
